Before going anywhere outside of Melbourne I always make sure that I know where all of the quilting/craft shops are located. This was the same for Paris.
I found two that looked promising. I only made it to one of them but I found two more while I was over there. So here are my three favourite shops in Paris.
Ultramod
Ultramod was the only shop I had on my list before I went that I managed to get to. There was a lot of chatter on the internet about it and the photos looked really good. It definitely lived up to all it’s hype.
The shop is over 2oo years old and its walls are lined with vintage buttons, velvet ribbon, tassels and very expensive lace. On display were cabinets full of vintage hat pins and pin cushions.
I went here on the morning of the craft show so I didn’t want to spend all my pennies in one place. But I did buy some vintage reproduction lace for my mum that was 80 € a meter and some buttons.
This kind of lace was used in France back in the day as an heirloom that could be used for something special then unpicked and handed down through generations to be treasured and loved over and over again. What a great piece of history that would make.
Mum is a bit unsure of what to make out of it but I’m sure when she decides we will post it for you all to see.
La Mercerie
This was actually the first haberdashery shop I visited. We came across it in Sceaux on our first day, when my boyfriend’s Aunt and Uncle where showing us around where they lived. It was down a boulevard full of cheese, meat, wine and patisserie shops. How very French!
This shop was also lined with buttons and trimmings except they were modern not vintage.
These shops tend to have lots of tassels too. No sure what the go is there. I did buy some cute buttons and I couldn’t resist buying a tassel to0.
I also saw more macaron and linen fabric here. It was such a cute shop and in such a beautiful part of Paris.
Moline Mercerie
Last but not least ‘Moline Mercerie’. Now I didn’t make it to the actual shop but it was at the craft show and so I did see a fair chunk of what would have been at the shop.
It had heaps of fabric… macroon fabric to be exact and so many trimmings, and surprise surprise… it had tassels to. I’m sure I would have spent up big in the shop. Oh well have to leave some for next time.
So if you ever get to Paris you should definitely try to visit these shops. I have listed all the details below.

Hi- I just love the fabric with all the french macarons and other desserts in the picture posted above! Would you happen to know anyone online who supplies the same fabric? Thanks very much! 🙂
Hi, I love it to! It came from the shop Moline Mercerie http://www.mercerie-moline.com. Unfortunately the name of the fabric is not on the selvage of my fabric so I’m not even sure what it’s called. I have looked myself on the internet with no luck. I have emailed the shop and asked them for some info on it and if they might post to Australia.
I will let you know how I go.

Hi Mitzi, I never heard back from the French shop, but I did do some google-ing and found this French on-line shop that has the fabric. You may need to use the google translator to understand it… but at least you will know the name of the fabric.
Here’s the link: http://www.trefle4feuilles.com/b/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=macaron&x=13&y=7&search_in_description=1&inc_subcat=1
It’s from the ‘YUWA LIVE LIFE COLLECTION PREMIUM MADE IN JAPAN’
Good luck in all your Macaron enjoyment!

Is there another website for Moline? I purchased some fabric there end of last year and am searching for some more.. but am having trouble locating their website (if they have one now!)
Appreciate any help or direction anyone can give.
Cheers
Hi, I have just had a look and I think they have changed there website to this: http://www.frou-frou-mercerie-contemporaine.com/ I have updated my link to the new one.
I think this quilt has seen better days. Is there enuogh of it that is in good shape that you could make it into a small lap quilt? Or I remember when people used to take old quilts like this and make teddy bears out of them. I have lots of family always asking me to put zippers in coats and stuff……..yuck! Thanks for sharing Vicki!
