Earlier this year my family gave me a very cute Jeeves mini iron for Mothers’ Day.
I hear you gasping with horror at receiving an iron for Mothers’ Day, and normally I would agree, I loath ironing, and a glimpse at my ironing pile which includes tablecloths washed three months ago and still waiting to be ironed would prove it.
But this one is different. It is just the right size for pressing those tiny seams on those cute little six inch blocks for my Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler quilt.
I set it up beside the sewing machine with my little portable 3-in-1 ironing board and it is perfect for those foundation pieced blocks that need to be pressed after every tiny seam. It’s perfect for appliquéing tiny pieces too.
The steam lasts longer than in my regular iron, and it is plenty hot enough as well.
In short, I looooove my new mini iron.
My husband often says: “Only a quilter would take yards and yards of material, cut it into little pieces and then sew them back together again”.
Well, only a quilter would spend hours pressing tiny seams while the family’s washing languishes, forgotten in the laundry, and only a quilter’s family would put up with, understand and love a quilter.
PS. We have had a few people asking where they could get one of these mini steam irons from, so here are the details:
It’s called a Mini Steam / Dry Iron and can be purchased at www.fabriccare.com.au
